Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio Pre-Taped Prior To Extreme Rules
During Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Seth Rollins faced Rey Mysterio in an Eye For An Eye Match, where the winner is decided after extracting their opponents eye.
Going into the match, reports surfaced that the match would be pre-taped in order to gimmick the finish. Although no special effects were used during the match, the match was not live during Sunday’s broadcast.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite (Subscription Required) noted in his Extreme Rules recap show that the match was pre-taped earlier in the day at the WWE Performance Center, and was one of two matches that were not live during the broadcast.

Vince McMahon was heavily involved in the match, and oversaw the entire production, including choosing of weapons, as well as Seth Rollins puking following the finish.
“The Eye For An Eye Match was not live, other than the swamp fight, it was the only thing on the PPV that was not broadcast live. They taped it earlier today. Vince McMahon personally oversaw this, the tell tale sign here was Seth Rollins puked, Vince McMahon loves that sort of dirty bathroom humour. Vince McMahon was personally involved in the picking of the weapons, personally involved in laying out how he wanted this to go, this match was very much Vince McMahon’s personal vision I was told”
WWE provided a storyline update following the match, indicating Rey Mysterio did go to a “local medical facility”.
Mysterio was rushed to a local medical facility to be treated for a potential globe luxation. Medical experts were optimistic that if the optic nerve is not severed and there is not too much strain on the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of the head, there’s a chance Mysterio can maintain his vision
The big question at this point is whether Rey Mysterio will return to television, as he has yet to sign a new contract with WWE, and continues to work on a handshake deal with the company.
