WWE has begun planning possible opponents for Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania 36 next year in Tampa, FL.
While original plans had Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair at next year’s Mania, that has changed in the last few weeks.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, WWE plans to have Lynch as the top female star at next year’s event, but her opponent has yet to be revealed. The company has ruled out Stephanie McMahon, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey as possible opponents. The report notes that if Rousey does want the spot, she would almost certainly get it.
In a recent Sports Illustrated interview, Lynch did mention how she would like to face Sasha Banks in the future. She stated that they had great matches in NXT, but now that she is “The Man”, things are much different.
Although she wasn’t explicit in taking a shot at Banks taking time off, Lynch did mention that she has “fallen from grace” and “she can’t hack it”.
At one time, Sasha Banks was the top dog, she was ‘The Boss,’ but Sasha’s fallen from grace. It seems like she can’t hack it.
I would love to go toe-to-toe, ‘The Man’ vs. ‘The Boss,’ to prove who is the top dog now.”
WWE historically begins planning the following year’s Wrestlemania main events a year in advance. Although plans do shift, the company does seem to want to keep Becky Lynch as a main attraction.
