RAW Underground Seemingly Is Over

After seven weeks, WWE’s attempt at creating a new concept, RAW Underground, is now considered done.

The controlled experiment, which debuted on the 8/3 episode of Monday Night RAW, featured Shane McMahon as the host, setting up “shoot style” fights in a ring with no ropes, and several extras around the ring.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, RAW Underground segments are considered done for right now. The segment was first dropped due to the COVID outbreak, with concerns that extras in the crowd may have been exposed.

There was fear among WWE management that bringing back NXT talent, who were used during the segments, as well as extras, could cause an outbreak on the RAW roster. The company is trying to keep NXT talent away from main roster stars as much as they can.

Raw Underground for right now is considered done. At first it was dropped because of the COVID breakout and fear the extras who are in the crowd may have been exposed so it was shut down for a few weeks.

Two NXT talent, Dabba-Kato and Arturo Ruas, who were both featured on RAW Underground segments, were drafted to RAW in the 2020 WWE Draft. At this time, it’s unknown how both will be used going forward.

Another big question is the future of Shane McMahon on WWE television, who hosted the segments weekly. As of now, there is no word what plans the company has for him.
