Roman Reigns was scheduled to face Goldberg for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania last month, however he chose to opt out due to the current Coronavirus situation. He was replaced by Braun Strowman, who went on to defeat Goldberg and win his first world title.
Reigns spoke to TMZ on the current situation and why he opted out of WrestleMania.
“We just had two newborn twins, twin boys,” Reigns says … “They’re 8 weeks old so I had to make a decision for them.”
He then went on to speak about why he chose to not fight at WrestleMania.
“A lot of people … they think that it was based off of my heath and the history of my fight against leukemia. Talking to my doctors and stuff, I actually am fine and my immune system is good. The drugs that I take to fight the leukemia, they don’t attack your immune system.”
Reigns speaks about his children and why he made the decision: “It’s my family, it’s my children, they are my legacy. No matter what I do in this world, my children are gonna be the ones to represent my name and carry our name forward. So I had to make that choice for them, to protect them being so young.”
He then goes on to say how he misses wrestling and how he cant wait to get back into the ring:
“I wanna be out there, I wanna get back to work, I wanna get back to normal but I just feel like I have an obligation not only to my family and myself but to my community.”
“Also, to set the example because at the end of the day, we can do a lot of different things and say a lot of different things but it’s through our actions that really speaks volume. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
He says that he is not sure when he will exactly come back, however in the meantime he is looking after his main priority, his kids.
Reigns is set to appear in the upcoming ‘The Last Ride’ documentary on the WWE Network, which will reveal how the Undertaker wants to end his career.
Reigns speaks about his WrestleMania 33 match with The Undertaker: “I had no clue about the end … like how he was gonna be laying his hat and his gloves and his jacket down,” He says he was even moved to tears during the match!
