WWE will be returning to the road this weekend, beginning for Friday Night SmackDown and Money In The Bank.
Earlier today, Wrestlevotes reported the company has plans for “a surprise or two” to commemorate the return of live fans at its events.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), John Cena is scheduled to make his highly anticipated return to WWE later this month. The report notes Cena “is scheduled to appear on WWE programming at some point over the next eleven days”.
Internal plans state he is booked to appear on the July 23 episode of SmackDown, or even sooner. WWE will be broadcasting from two locations on that date, with two matches scheduled to take place at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami, and the rest of the show emanating from Cleveland, OH.
Two months ago, WWE was reportedly in discussions with Cena to return at the July 16 episode of SmackDown in Houston, it’s unknown if that appearance has been pushed to a later date in the month.
Jon Alba noted that John Cena vs. Roman Reigns is still the “targeted main event” for next month’s SummerSlam in Las Vegas.
Cena's schedule clears up in the beginning of July, which would allow him to return to #WWE in time for the return of fans. I believe it was @AndrewZarian who first mentioned this possibility a few weeks ago. #WWE
