Tony Khan Believes Double Or Nothing ‘Kicked The Crap Out of Wrestlemania’

AEW founder Tony Khan hosted a media call ahead of this weekend’s AEW All Out pay-per-view.

During the call he was asked about Brock Lesnar, and the news regarding his free agency. Khan praised Lesnar, but stated he could not comment on his contractual status.

“I can’t comment on that at this time but I’ve enjoyed Brock’s work for many years. He’s a great fighter & a great wrestler. I don’t think people talk enough about what a great worker Brock Lesnar is.”

Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract expired following Wrestlemania 36. His merchandise contract with WWE expired earlier this week, resulting in WWE removing his merchandise from the WWE Shop.

He also spoke on the current health crisis, and the highs and lows it’s brought to the wrestling world in general. He firmly believes AEW’s Double Or Nothing event was better than WWE’s two-night Wrestlemania.

“I thought, and I’m sorry, I’ll just be honest, we were both operating during the pandemic, I tested everybody coming in, this might be the full out quote of the press conference, but I’m going to say it. I thought Double Or Nothing kicked the crap out of WrestleMania, it was a much better pay-per-view. We were both operating under difficult circumstances, I think ours we were fortunate, as it was a little bit later in the pandemic, and we had implemented testing, and we were doing testing at that time, but when we were doing Double Or Nothing, we still were the only ones doing testing, we had a good testing plan at that point.”

Khan says due to current circumstances he cannot bring all the fans back to the action, but compares the current live event setup as a “drive-in movie theatre”.

AEW has been allowing fans to attend television productions at a limited capacity, between 10-15 percent.
