Becky Lynch will reportedly be a heel going forward.
Becky Lynch made her grand return at SummerSlam, replacing Sasha Banks against Bianca Belair. Lynch won the match in a number of seconds, reclaiming the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
According to PWInsider, Becky Lynch will be positioned as a top heel on SmackDown going forward, and will be feuding with former champion Bianca Belair.
It was further noted that Lynch was initially scheduled for an October return up until this week, however plans obviously changed and Lynch instead made her return at SummerSlam.
Mike Johnson explained more on the news during a hotline on PWInsider Elite (subscription required), noting this wasn’t the original idea for her return.
“I was told this was a Vince McMahon idea, and a Vince McMahon pitch. This was not the original idea for her return, she was going to be returning in early October, but everything that went down with Sasha Banks, with her being unable to perform at SummerSlam led to WWE reconfiguring plans and Vince McMahon decided ‘that’s what I want’. Becky Lynch, the biggest babyface star in quite sometime, she’s going to be a heel going forward”
Lynch returned to the WWE Performance Center earlier this summer, where she trained in the ring with Indi Hartwell prior to being cleared to return. Lynch has also attended several WWE events in recent months, including last month’s Money In The Bank.
Fans criticized WWE for the booking of Bianca Belair, as she didn’t manage to use any moves in the match, instead losing in just over twenty seconds.
SummerSlam was Lynch’s first WWE appearance since last May, where she relinquished her Raw Women’s Championship to go and have a baby with her Fiancé Seth Rollins. Lynch and Rollins announced the birth of their daughter Roux in December.
