Several Lucha Underground stars feel that they are being held legally “hostage” under their current deals with the company. So far Joey Ryan, and Ivelisse have been the only stars to speak publicly on the situation.

Lucha Underground wrapped up Season 4 last year, and with Season 5 up in the air, several wrestlers are held in limbo from signing deals with other companies.

Ivelisse took to social media to state her grievances with the company. She states that it’s been 1 1/2 years she’s been battling with Lucha Underground.

She says the company convinced her to do Season 4, and allegedly promised her release after its conclusion. She claims the company is now not granting her release from the company.

Joey Ryan was asked about the possibility of joining All Elite Wrestling, and he states he is still under contract with Lucha Underground, which will prevent him from signing a contract with another company. Ryan is still able to fulfil independent bookings.

Joey Ryan showed is support for Ivelisse stating that prior to Season 4, the company told anyone who requested a release would be granted one. He states some did and left after the tapings, while others showed faith in the product, and now those who did are being punished for it.

Shane Strickland did manage to gain his release from the company, following interest from the WWE. His Lucha Underground contract prevented him from signing with the WWE. He now is a free agent.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet,  other stars also feel the same way towards Lucha Underground. Many of the creative staff with the company feel for the stars, and it seems Lucha Underground GM Dorian Joaquín Roldán Peña is the one not granting releases.

Currently, no Season 5 for Lucha Underground has been solidified.
