Eddie Kingston says he wanted to leave wrestling after the deaths of Andy Williams and Ben Satterley.

According to eWrestlingNews, Kingston spoke after his match at PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 199: Bonestorm on Sunday, October 25, where he defeated Luke Jacobs. In a post match promo, Kingston reflected on losing both men in a short space of time.

“After Andy and Ben passed away, I didn’t leave my house for five days. I wanted to leave this business,” Kingston said.

Kingston said he keeps going because of the fans. He said he wakes up every morning and does this because of them, and he thanked the fans for their support through his career, especially in recent months. He also gave credit to Jacobs for their match.

Williams, known as Andy “The Butcher” Williams, died on September 6. A memorial was held for him on September 27, the same day Satterley died in his vehicle. Satterley, known to AEW fans as PAC, died on September 27.

Kingston has been open about how hard the losses hit him. He said losing real people while gaining fake people made life a hard place, and that the deaths left him ready to walk away from the business entirely.

The PROGRESS appearance was Kingston’s first time speaking at length about it in front of a crowd since the deaths. He is an AEW star, and his comments landed with fans who have followed him through a career built on straight talking promos.

Kingston did not announce any change to his wrestling future on the night. He closed by thanking the fans, and by making clear that they are the reason he is still doing this.

What is confirmed is what Kingston said at PROGRESS, and that he beat Jacobs at Chapter 199. What is not confirmed is anything about his next AEW appearance, or whether he plans to speak about the losses again on AEW television.
