AEW have announced the exit of Cody and Brandi Rhodes.

In a statement released by the official AEW Twitter account, the company thanked the Rhodes’ for their time with the company, in which they helped AEW progress both on television and behind-the-scenes.

Cody Rhodes’ AEW contract expired at the end of last year, and despite it initially seeming as if he was going to re-sign, the prospect of it became less likely as the weeks went on. Rhodes has since been working without a contract, emphasising this during a recent backstage interview following his loss to Sammy Guevara.

Cody and Brandi Rhodes were among the first major signings made by AEW, joining the company as EVP and CBO respectively. However last year, reports emerged implying a drift between Rhodes and Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, who are also EVPs.

Following the announcement, both Cody and Brandi released statements to their Twitter accounts, thanking the fans, locker room and company for their time there. You can see these below.

Prior to the announcement, Dave Meltzer noted on The Wrestling Observer Radio that there was discussion backstage at this week’s Raw over the potential of him returning to WWE, with Fightful Select also adding that he could potentially be making his way back to WWE.

Shortly before the announcement, WWE officials were aware of the situation and also knew that an announcement would be dropped. We’ve heard that the two sides have at the least had discussions
