Following recent reports of NXT moving to Tuesday Night’s, further details have been revealed on the reason WWE plans to shift the show a day earlier.
Whilst speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez noted that the switch was due to the NHL moving to USA Network. NBC’s Sports Network will be closing down later this year, with NHL, NASCAR and other programming being switched to USA Network.
“NXT will be moving to Tuesday’s on the Tuesday after WrestleMania. It has not been officially announced yet, but it’s all but a done deal.
Oh. But you know, I mean, there’s always a chance that something can happen, but this has to do with the NHL.
And like I said, when NBC Sports Network was dropped, the NHL is on Wednesday night and that’s going to be on USA.
They (WWE) were going to have to move. And, and that’s what happened.”
The move is expected to take place on April 13th, the first episode of NXT after WrestleMania. An official announcement for the switch to Tuesday nights hasn’t yet been made, however, it should drop sometime soon.
In January, Meltzer noted that NXT’s contract with USA Network would be expiring in October, with the show possibly being moved to Tuesdays or Thursdays if USA renewed their agreement.
Cody Rhodes recently spoke on the report during the AEW Revolution media call, stating the real winners are the fans who will be able to enjoy both shows on different nights.
