WWE still plans to hold Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, despite concerns among some of its own staff and talent.
According to Fightful Select, as reported by WrestleZone, the plan has not changed. Fightful Select reported that a number of staff and talent are not happy about it at this point, and that WWE is in constant communication with its hosts about the situation.
“As of now, the plan is still for WWE Crown Jewel to take place in Saudi Arabia,” Fightful Select reported. “We’re told naturally, that WWE is in constant communication with their hosts regarding the matter.”
Crown Jewel is scheduled for Saturday, November 7 at Riyadh Season Stadium. It is less than two weeks away, and the show is being held against a backdrop of regional security concerns, including attacks on airports and other infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
The United States Embassy in Riyadh issued a security alert on October 25. Effective October 23, the Department of State ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks.
TKO CEO Ari Emanuel addressed the situation on Fox News last week. He said everything was still set, and that the company has a team working on backup plans if the show cannot go ahead in Riyadh. He said the situation is being monitored daily.
Three matches are announced for Crown Jewel so far. Roman Reigns faces Sami Zayn for the men’s Crown Jewel Championship, Liv Morgan faces Chelsea Green for the women’s Crown Jewel Championship, and Cody Rhodes faces Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match.
What is confirmed is that the show is still planned for Riyadh on November 7, and that some staff and talent are unhappy about it. What is not confirmed is whether WWE will use a backup plan, or what would have to happen for the show to move.
