An update has been provided on CM Punk’s training ahead of his return to wrestling.
According to Fightful Select, CM Punk has done some additional training ahead of his rumored imminent return. As well as doing training of his own, Punk has also trained for his appearance in the upcoming Starz show, Heelz.
Fightful have reached out to those who have been around CM Punk throughout the last six months – and they had some very positive things to say. One person said that Punk looked ‘completely healthy’, with another suggesting that Punk may have had private training prior to his appearance on Heelz. Another source noted that it was ‘as if he had never left wrestling.’
Last month, Fightful Select revealed that CM Punk was in talks for an in-ring return in a report which has been backed up by several other sites. A report also emerged that Punk had signed with AEW, with his debut for the promotion being imminent.
Since the report broke, both AEW and Punk have dropped several teasers referencing his in-ring return, with Punk seemingly hinting at his debut by posting the song ‘Sirius’ to his Instagram story. For those that don’t know, the song has been used by the Chicago Bulls, and Punk is rumored to be making his debut in the same city either later this month or at All Out on September 5.
AEW on the other hand have dropped various hints during recent episodes, with Darby Allin mentioning the ‘Best in the World’, and MJF cutting a very similar promo to Punk’s infamous 2011 pipebomb. AEW have also filed to trademark ‘The First Dance’, fueling speculation of Punk’s imminent arrival.
When asked about the rumors of Punk potentially making his way to AEW, CEO Tony Khan said that they were ‘good questions’, however he couldn’t comment on them. Chris Jericho on the other hand had something very different to say, replying with ‘of course’ when asked whether he would be interested in seeing the former WWE Champion become All Elite.
CM Punk isn’t the only former WWE Champion rumored to be making his way to AEW, as reports have emerged revealing that Daniel Bryan’s debut is set for AEW’s NYC ‘Grand Slam’ show on September 22.
