Bruce Prichard is planning a transition in his WWE role, but he is not expected to retire outright.

According to Fightful Select, via F4WOnline, Prichard expects to continue working remotely rather than retire from WWE. He is said to be considering a roughly six month transition away from his current role as he prepares for neck surgery, with an existing injury making travel difficult.

That update pushes back on an earlier PWInsider report from last week. PWInsider reported that Prichard was expected to retire from his role as WWE Executive Director of Creative Writing and Talent after WrestleMania 43, while remaining with the company in a consulting capacity.

Fightful Select also reported that speculation about Shawn Michaels taking over Prichard’s role is not correct. WWE sources told Fightful that Michaels taking over is not the case, and that rumored changes involving WWE, NXT, Evolve and ID are either inaccurate or far from finalized.

Two other names were mentioned in the Fightful report. AJ Styles is expected to gain more influence in WWE scouting, while Bobby Roode has been considered for a role similar to those held by Prichard or Michael Hayes.

The current belief, according to F4WOnline, is that the PWInsider report is more accurate than the Fightful report on the broad direction, but there is no timeframe for these changes, no changes are expected before WrestleMania 43, and things could change between now and then.

Prichard has been a central figure in WWE creative for years, and any move away from his day to day role would be a major backstage change. A remote role, rather than a clean exit, would keep his experience inside the company while easing the travel demands tied to his neck injury.

For now, nothing is finalized. The reports disagree on the exact shape of the transition, but both point to a change after WrestleMania 43, not an immediate departure.
