Jake Roberts has given a health update, and he says he quit smoking five weeks ago.

According to Fightful, Roberts took to social media on November 3 to address fans about two topics, including his health. Roberts revealed that he is on oxygen, and he said he quit smoking five weeks ago in order to work toward a procedure that could get him off oxygen.

Roberts said the procedure cannot be done unless he avoids smoking for six months. He spoke openly about his history, saying he smoked for fifty years, and he said genetics also played a part, with emphysema and COPD.

“I quit five weeks ago. I’m sticking with it,” Roberts said in the video, in his own words.

Roberts also clarified rumors about his status with WWE in the same video. He recently re-signed with WWE, according to his own comments in November, after leaving AEW earlier this year. He said he is doing some work for WWE, which puts the health update in context for fans who have seen him less often on television.

Back in October, Roberts said Tony Khan needs to loosen the reins and take some advice when it comes to AEW creative. That comment drew attention at the time, but his November 3 video was focused on his health, not on AEW.

Roberts is one of wrestling’s most respected voices, and his openness about smoking and oxygen use is a serious update, not a storyline. He did not give a date for the procedure, only the six month clean requirement that stands between him and it.

For now, the news is that he has made it five weeks without smoking, and he is sticking with it.
