Grayson Waller retained the NXT Championship over CM Punk on the November 4 episode of NXT, with Kevin Owens deciding the finish.
Waller defended the title against Punk in the main event at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Late in the match, Owens ran to the ring and distracted Punk. Waller rolled Punk up for the pin while Punk was focused on Owens, and kept the title.
Owens was not supposed to be in the building. He went to the Performance Center earlier in the day to get treatment on his shoulder, and Shawn Michaels told him to leave because Punk was competing on the show. Owens posted video of the conversation, and he was not happy about it. He got his revenge anyway by costing Punk the title.
The match came about after Punk called Waller out following Waller’s title defense against Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. Punk and Owens will settle their own issue in a No Holds Barred match on the November 6 episode of SmackDown, which was taped November 3 in Brooklyn. Punk is also scheduled to return to NXT for holiday house shows on November 14 in Detroit and November 15 in Chicago.
The show was loaded beyond the main event. John Cena appeared and revealed Zilla Fatu as an entrant in the John Cena Classic. Kelani Jordan retained the NXT Women’s Championship against Paige, who was revealed as the mystery opponent. Romeo Moreno and Noam Dar won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and Cody Rhodes presented them with the Cup and announced they will challenge for the NXT Tag Team Titles next week.
What is confirmed is Waller keeping the title, the Owens interference, and Punk against Owens on SmackDown. What is not confirmed is whether Punk gets another shot at Waller, or how long Owens stays involved in the title picture.
