Kevin Owens beat CM Punk in a No Holds Barred match in the main event of the November 6 episode of SmackDown, closing the show with a chain-wrapped fist to the jaw.
The match was taped Monday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and aired Friday night as the final SmackDown before Crown Jewel. Owens and Punk brawled through the crowd and around ringside from the opening bell, using chairs, the ring steps and the announce table.
Punk put Owens through the commentary desk with an elbow drop, then wrapped a steel chain around his knee. Owens sent Punk through two tables with a fisherman’s buster off the apron, and a Stunner only got a two count. Owens then wrapped the chain around his right hand and swung. Punk ducked and hit the GTS, but Owens stayed on his feet, bounced off the ropes and knocked Punk out with the chain for the pin.
The win evens the score between the two. Punk beat Owens in August to keep the Undisputed WWE Championship. Owens earned a title shot by winning his return match at SummerSlam, then cashed it in against Punk less than three weeks later, only for Sami Zayn to cost him the match and let Punk keep the title.
Zayn is now the Undisputed WWE Champion, and he faces World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns for the Men’s Crown Jewel Championship today in Riyadh. Owens has not been announced for Crown Jewel, but a win over Punk puts him right back in the title picture.
What is confirmed is the win and the finish. What is not confirmed is what is next for Owens, or when he gets another shot at the title.
